Kalikesh Singh Deo has demanded a new university in Western Odisha.

Member of Parliament from Balangir has requested Professor Trilochan Pradhan to look into the long standing demand of the backward areas of the State.

Presenting a well researched document on low Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the district, Mr.Singh Deo said it is high time that Western Odisha University needs to be set at Balangir.

Professor Pradhan has agreed to look into the matter as the Interim Report of the Task Force is being finalized soon.

Sources said Task Force is meeting on 9 February to fine tune the Report prepared by the team.

Mr.Singh Deo said though setting up of an university was mooted in 60’s by his grand father and former Chief Minister Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo at Balangir, it has not been possible due to various factors.

Recently Mr.Singh Deo met Sam Pitroda, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Innovations and former Chairman Knowledge Commission on the matter.

MP from Balangir wanted a Central University at Balangir and has presented a memorandum to Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of HRD, recently.

In order to scale up GER, setting up a university helps a lot said Mr.Singh Deo, alumni of St.Stephens.
