Demos held in Kalahandi

In protest against the steep increase in the prices of petroleum products by the Centre, the BJP observed Bharat Bandh and the BJD, SJP, CPI, CPI(M) and RJD observed the Odisha Hartal at Bhawanipatna and elsewhere in Kalahandi district on Monday.

The workers of these parties staged demonstrations at several places in the district headquarters town here. Markets, petrol pumps, banks, school, Government offices remained closed, while buses and other multi-wheelers remained off the roads.

The protestors also held a public meeting in front of the SBI office here and denounced the UPA Government’s decision to hike petro prices.

The bandh also affected life in Dharmagarh, Junagarh, Kesinga, Rampur, Narla and Lanjigarh blocks in the district.
