Karlapat Police Outpost- Under permanent transit by the administration

Sad news to hear that the Pre-Independence Police Outpost @ Karlapat(GP Headquarter) is almost shifted to Gunpur village about 20 kms from Karlapat. A group of people from Karlapat did submit a grievance at the S.P Office(Bhawanipatna) on 03/11/2012 requesting a thought on holding the decision.

The Karlapat Police Outpost was a transformation from a Pre-Independence Mal-Khana( Armoury of the Karlapat Zamindari) and has witnessed 8 decades of maintaining Law & Order in the area. Karlapat G.P a high density Tribal-Populated area adjoins the Kerpai, Nakraundi G.P, and is under the Lanjigarh constituency. The Karlapat Outpost is positioned at Karlapat G.P village under the Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary and plays a pivotal role in checking crimes such as Poaching, Opium Plantation & Trading, Illegal Country Liquor cooking, Jungle Mafia, and other crimes.

As mentioned above the area is one of the high density Tribal-Populated and poor region in Kalahandi districts, and has boundaries extended till Kashipur-Rayagada, Nakrundi-Kerpai, Lanjigarh, Mandibisi, Kalyansinghpur etc. which are already infiltrated by the Maoists as per the locals and police records. Frequent combing operations by the CRPF has been witnessed by the locals. If in case the Karlapat Out-Post is permanently transited to any other place then that would encourage Maoist activities en-route the sanctuary which is large enough(196 sq km). Lack of mobile connectivity and rugged roads in the area are easy targets for hide-outs by the Maoists. Safe-guarding the sanctuary is much more important that guarding a particular village, and Karlapat Out-Post has been playing its role ever since Independence.

The Naxal funding by the Govt. has to be properly utilized in the area to improve the communication, infrastructure and upgrading police system. It is therefore a high end Appeal to the Group members to sign a petition( Stopping the possible transit of Out-Post) and send it to the Police District & State Administration for immediate action.

If there will be no Out-Post @ Karlapat Village- Then the day is not so far when Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary will be a Maoist Haven.
