Normal life has been thrown out of gear in Bhawanipatna town for the last three days as there has been power disruption for about 15 hours every day.
Disruption of power supply without notice, poor voltage and undeclared power-cut for long hours were common features in Kalahandi.
But, last three days have led to widespread resentment among the residents as business, industrial, banking as well as official works have been severely hit.
The WESCO officials said, “The power disruption has been caused by breakdown of the main transformer and a fault in the main grid in Bhawanipatna.”
Aggrieved members of Citizens Forum and Kalahandi BAR Association met the Collector on Sunday and demanded intervention of Government for smooth supply of power.
They alleged that WESCO remains indifferent to the problem. It has become a recurrent problem due to poor maintenance and inherent deficiencies.
Despite the fact that Indravati Project in Kalahandi is generating 600 MW of electricity, Kalahandi is deprived of electricity, they alleged.
The forum members demanded specific reservation and supply of power from Indravati project. The aggrieved citizens and Bar members have threatened to resort to agitation if  power is not restored immediately and steps are not taken to improve power supply soon.
Kalahandi Bar Association president Daitari Pradhan and Citizens Forum president Ramachandra Rath led the delegation to the Collector.
