Securitymen, Maoists exchange fire in Odisha’s Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna, Feb 11:
Security personnel and the Maoists exchanged fire in the Lanjigarh area in Odisha’s Kalahandi district this afternoon.


According to sources, a joint team of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and CRPF was on a combing operation in the Lanjigarh area when the Maoist opened fire at them at a place between Bijapur and Trilochanpur under Lanjigarh block.
The security personnel retaliated immediately. After a brief spell of encounter, the Maoist fled the area leaving their arms and ammunition at the spot which were later seized.
The incident took place between 3 pm and 4 pm.
While sources in the CRPF have claimed the casualty from the Maoist side, no confirmation has been made as yet.
Meanwhile, a back-up team of the CRPF from Muniguda in the bordering Rayagada district has rushed to the spot and started a search operation in the area to track down the red rebels.
