BHAWANIPATNA: The four-day 20th Kalahandi Utsav - Ghumura - was inaugurated at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium here on Thursday. The festival aims to showcase the rich folk culture of the district.
Torch rallies were taken out from Manikeswari temple of Thuamul Rampur, Shiva temples of Sapsilet and Mohangiri, Budharaja temple of Ampani, Dukri temple of Talgud, Manikeswari temple of Bhawanipatna and Urladani, the soil of martyr Rindo Majhi, in colourful procession and culminated at the venue.
Lok Sabha member Arka Keshari Deo inaugurated the festival in the presence of MLA Balabhadra Majhi, Zilla Parishad chairperson Srimati Majhi and Collector Brunda D.
Folk dances like Ghumura, Purulia Chhau, Bagha Nacha and Gotipua were performed by the artistes from Vijayawada, Puri and the district.
Similarly, a Palishree Mela was organised to exhibit local crafts and products by the district administration.
The festival will also be celebrated at Dharamgarh from January 15 to 17.
