Buddha Jayanti celebrated by Kalinga Buddha Mahasangha

BHAWANIPATNA, May 10: A state-level Buddha Mahotsav was organised by Kalinga Buddha Mahasangha on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti here yesterday. A large number of people especially the followers of Buddha from western districts like Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh and Sambalpur participated in the event.
Mr Bhante Nagghos from Bhikkhu Sangha of Nagpur inaugurated the function. He performed Buddha Puja and recited Trisaran Panchasila, which was followed by other participants.
In his discourse he said that the philosophy of Buddha which teaches karuna, prajyn and samata is more relevant in the present scenario of India to bring social reform and for emancipation of Dalits from age old bondage and exploitation.
On this occasion seminars on various topics like Buddhism and its social relevance, Buddhism and social emancipation, and the cultural movement of Dalits were organised. A rally in the town and cultural programme followed the programme.
President of Kalinga Buddha Mahasangha, Bhikhu Nagabodhi coordinated the celebrations.
