Orissa eyeing for NRI varsity

Orissa is eyeing to set up a Non-Resident Indians (NRI)s Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)University in the state for which Non Resident Oriyas(NRO) has shown keen interest.

While the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for establishing these PIO/NRI Universities in India from reputed Indian Trusts or Registered Societies, Department of Higher Education is making moves in this regard.

Debi Prasad Mishra, Minister of the Department of Higher Education ( DHE) has asked the mandarins in the department to go ahead with the proposal.

Government of India proposes to establish four universities in India (at places/cities other than Bangalore) for children of PIOs and NRIs.

MOIA has already cleared a NRI University in Bangalore, while 4 others will be established in other parts of the country.

Madhu Sudan Padhi, Secretary DHE is busy in planning for the proposed a new institution, as the dateline for sending the proposal is on 31 July said sources.

Among others, leading NROs Professor Chitta Baral, Dr.Rabi Mohapatra and Mr.Dhirendra Kumar Kar has urged upon the Government of Orissa to speed up the proposal as dateline is getting nearer.

They have urged Mr.Mishra not to miss the bus as other states are queuing up for the same.

With Orissa Government is keen to develop the state as Knowledge Hub, NRI University will go a long way in this regard, feel Mr.Kar.
