In order to improve the health services in remote and tribal areas, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved the proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Department for appointment of 351 new doctors to fill up the existing vacancies.
On the request of the H and FW Department, the Odisha Public Service Commission had conducted recruitment examination and recommended the list of 351 eligible doctors for appointment.
According to official sources, the new doctors would be recruited particularly in dispensaries, PHCs and CHCs in the remote areas of the underdeveloped Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput region and other
tribal regions of Kandhamal and Gajapati districts.
The sources said in order to check the problem of shortage of doctors, the State Government has enhanced the age of superannuation of doctors to 60 years. Besides, seats in the SCB Medical College and Hospital, MKCG Medical College and Hospital and VSS Medical College and Hospital have been enhanced to 150 each.
