Power production at the Indravati Power Project was stalled for five consecutive times following heavy rains on the upper catchments of the Indravati river that put the project's loss at Rs 15 crore.
National Highway-201 was submerged disrupting road communication between Jaipatna, Mukhiguda, Dharmagarh, Junagarh, Jaipatna, Nabarangpur and Koksara.
Every year, surplus water from the project is released through the Mangalpur Barrage into the Hati river.
Sources said the Indravati river flowed at 641.5 meters against the danger mark of 642 meters. Water in the Muran dam flowed at 445.172 K.V per second.
As two gates were opened, water flooded the roads disrupting links between Boriguma and Kotpat and further down between Bastar and Dantewada in Chhattisgarh.
