BALANGIR: Scorching heat couldn’t deter denizens of Titilagarh from getting a glimpse of dream girl of Bollywood today. Even as it was noon and Rajya Sabha member Hema Malini was one hour late, people still kept on waiting. Followed by two political bigwigs of BJP Narendra Modi and L K Advani, Hema hit the campaign trail at Titilagarh. Santanu Nayak is the BJP MLA candidate from here. Addressing the gathering in Hindi Hema said sarcastically, ‘‘Sare des mein garibi, atank, buri, bhay aur phir bhi Congress ki jay!’’. On the BJP-BJD divorce, she said Naveen babu’s ‘betrayal’ will boomerang. ‘‘It was because of Atal ji, Naveen Patnaik was recognized in Orissa. People liked NDA and Atal, not BJD or Naveen. Now we will see how Naveen faces the election,’’ said Hema. She claimed there were increasing incidences of terrorism, foeticide and violence against women during UPA rule. She wound up her speech with a dialogue of Basanti, the role she played in Bollywood blockbuster Sholay. Parlakhemundi: ‘‘THERE has been an increase in the number of terrorist attacks in the country, rising unemployment and essential commodities have gone beyond consumers’ reach,’’ said Hema Malini. She was at Ramagiri, 60 km from here, today to campaign for BJP candidate for Berhampur Parliamentary constituency, Bharat Paik and Mohana Assembly segment candidate Antaryami Gomango. Blaming the BJD for unilaterally breaking the alliance with BJP, she said the BJD has not only betrayed the BJP but the people of Orissa. She urged people to vote BJP to power and make L. K. Advani prime minister. BHAWANIPATNA: At a public meeting at Narla here, Hema said the BJP-led NDA has always been giving priority to development of the KBK region and will continue to do so if voted to power. Describing the Kandhamal riots as tragic, Hema said BJP had always been there for the uplift of tribals in the country. ‘‘BJP is not a party for a particular sect. It is a party above caste, creed, community and religion.’’ JATNI: ‘‘A secure nation is a possibility only if BJP comes to power,’’ said Hema at a public meeting at Bachhara Pattana ground here. She urged voters to fight against BJD and work unitedly to ensure that BJP is voted to power. On the occasion, BJP leader, Biswabhusan Harichandan put forth the achievements undertaken by BJP as an alliance partner and called upon voters to cast votes in favour of BJP. Among others, party MLA candidate Sudipta Ray, Archana Nayak, Surma Satpathy were present.
