Challenges, Possibilities and Opportunities for Bhakta Charan Das in various Ministries under Central Government

In past 63 years since independence, NOT a single major project was approved in Kalahandi during Congress Government in the center in railway, national highways or Indravati irrigation project, all of them were blessing from non-congress Government in the center. Not even a central government sponsored higher educational institution or medical college or public sector industry was approved for Kalahandi in any time in the history of Congress regime in India. Where as in Balangir and Koraput public sector industries such as HAL, NALCO, Ordinance were established earlier.

Being an able leader, Bhakta Charan Das, has got high expectations from people of Kalahandi which is also reflected from the huge margin of vote he received in this election.

We are very much disappointed with the Congress Party and Prime Minister Dr Singh for not giving him a ministerial berth in the union cabinet as he proved his leadership skill as working president of Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee for western Orissa by winning 4 out of 5 MP seats. However, here there are some oppertunities for able leader like Bhakta Charan Das who can help development of Orissa, in particular, Kalahandi region. We sincerely hope he takes these issues to the concern ministries to fulfill all the objectives.

Mamata Benerjee, Union Minister of Railways

Approval of Kantabanji – Khariar – Dharamgarh – Ampani – Nabarangpur – Jeypur line: A serious demand in Kalahandi, Nuapada and Nabarangpur region, which has sent ruling congress MPs to the center

Early completion of Lanjigarh road – Jungarh railway line (Mr. Das's dream project)

Establishing a Railway Factory in Kalahandi: a serious demand in Kalahandi

Kamal Nath, Union Minister Surface Transport and Highways
Kamal Nath seems to be an old friend of Orissa Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik and both seems to be in good relation privately.

Widening and Improving NH210 & NH217 passing through Kalahandi

Approving and construction of a high lying bridge over Hati river near Junagarh: A serious demand of Kalahandi since a decade

Approval of major roads such as:
Nuapada – Patalganga – Boden - Nilji - Sinapalli – Golamunda – Brundabahal
Bongomunda - Kegaon – Dhamamgarh- Moter – Jaipatna – Mukhiguda - Raniguda

Possibility of National Highway
Bongomunda to Koraput via Kegaon, Dharamgarh, Moter, Jaipatna, Mukhiguda and Raniguda as a National Highway
Khariar to Bhanjanagar via Bhawanipatna, Lanjigarh road, Simanbadi, Daringbadi as National Highway

Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of Human Resource Development

Establishing Branch of Central University of Orissa for faculty of Medicine, Science and Engineering in Bhawanipatna: This is a long standing demand in Kalahandi since 1988, Mr Das is aware of this fact.

Establishing Kalahandi Institute of Science & Technology in the line of Ghanikant Choudhury Institute of Science & Technology in West Bengal

A Central Govt. sponsored Polytechnique College in Dharmagarh

Working with UGC to start Post Graduate Courses in Science and Computer Science & Application in Government Autonomous College Bhawanipatna

Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union minister Health:Ghulam Nabi Azad is a close associate of Orissa Congress and Bhakta Babu was in contact with him.

Central Government sponsored Medical College in Kalahandi (for KBK region) similar to one in North Eastern states

S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Urban Development:
Including Bhawanipatna in national urban development plan

Sushilkumar Shinde, Minister of Power:
A thermal power plant in Kalahandi (possibility in Jungarh or Kesinga region where water & free non-agricultural or forest land is available)

Dayanishi Maran, Union minister of Textiles:
Kalahandi is one of the largest producers of cotton in Orissa, neighboring Rayagada, Balangir and other Orissa districts also produce cotton in a large extent. In this region Bhawanipatna is ideally located in equidistance from Rayagada and Balangir and can be a center for cotton processing unit in South-Western Orissa. A central Government funded Textile Park and cotton processing unit in Bhawanipatna will boost the local farmers in the whole region.

Meira Kumar, Union minister of Water Resources:
Extension of upper Indravati irrigation project to all regions of Koksara and Golamunda blocks

Other possible irrigation projects in Thuamul Rampur, Lanjigarh, Naral, Madanpur Rampur, Karlamunda, Nuapada, Kairar, Komna, Sinapalli and Kesinga blocks

Subodh Kant Sahay , Union minister of Food Processing:
I vaguely remember Subodh Kant Sahay had visited Kalahandi along with Bhakta babu in early 1990s when both of them were ministers in Chandra Sekha Government .

A food processing park could be established in Kalahandi as Kalahandi is emerging as large producer of rice, cotton and pulses.

Kantilal Bhuria, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs:
A Tribal College can be established in Kalahandi

Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers:
Since Mr Das has good relation with Srikant Jena, minister of state from Orissa, he could talk with him to establish a Phamaceutical College in Kalahandi under Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers

I really wonder if you are a Congress party worker and a die hard fan of our new MP, Mr. Bhakta Charan Das, coz you always end up singing peans to Mr. Das and never shy away praising him. I have never seen you writing any areas of improvement for him, where as you are first up to report tirades against other local leaders. I guess you are plain scared of wrath of Bhakta Babu, coz you never reported why his Green Kalahandi Movement lost its steam the momment he won the MP seat.

He didnt got a Ministership, and you took this up as personal insult. Naveen Pattnaik Govt and his MLA are constantly ridiculed in your blog even before they resume their office as new Govt.

As a blogger, you have a responsibility to bring out impartial news story to your readers.

I hope you take this as a constructive criticism rather than taking this as personal insult again and start giving explanations.

On party line readers can have misconception or put personal thoughts into it, I did not criticize BJD (in fact I prasied Naveen babu in different ocassions for Odisha, but take a strong stand now on Kalahandi as he betrayed in few instances interest of Kalahandi) but I did criticize congress party (both for Odisha/Kalahandi), on the other hand I also criticized Pushpendra in few ocassions for his slow & poor initiatives but praised Pradipta Naik (BJP), Bira Sipka (BJD), Duryodhan Majhi (BJD), even Bikram Deo (BJP) (for NH201 & Nh217) and now Bhakta Das (for his initiative for railways & sugar facotry in Kalahandi) in few ocassions. This is up to reader to interfer political stand. I do not have intention to hurt any readers as I am not going to repeat the same mistake by putting name of readers without taking their permission rather I want a healthy discussion to improave my understanding. I expect readers should also try to find objectives and motives of such kind of criticism or suggestion.

Our criticism to any party is just only for interest of Kalahandi/Odisha, similar criticism on Congress Party can also be found here:
http://kalahandia.blogspot.com/2009/03/kalahandi-neglected-most-by-congress.html

Disappointment for Bhakta Das not getting ministry was only due to my association with Kalahandi & its development, nothing more than that. When I looked back, I was impressed about his work for Lanjigarh road – Junagarh railway line approval, Samata express to link Delhi with Kesinga and Sugar factory in Junagarh (now it’s a past). Since he won this time, I was hopeful he might work for something similar if could have got a ministry. Last couple of years I have been involved in railway struggle in Odisha which gave me realization that Lanjigarh road – Junagarh line would have never been possible without Bhakta Das becoming a minister. I will also not have difficult to swallow praise for any other leader from Kalahandi who contributed to development of Kalahandi but there should be visible statistics.

On Green Kalahandi & anti-Vedanta issue I had more personal discussion with few NGO people. Personally I consider anti-Vedanta issue is weakness of Bhakta Das that I have often discussed in various other forums. I also expressed there that he used Vedanta issue for his political gain like Srikant Jena (to make their position in congress party where they were new entrants, remember that Rahul Gandhi also visited Niyamgir for political reason when Congress party in the centre was supporting Vedanta). I also did not like Srikant Jena’s move to oppose Vedanta University in Puri as well as Bhakta Das's anti-Vedanta protest in Kalahandi but did not oppose critically as it has human issue to deal with (tribal rights, rehabilitation issues). It was also not of my interest as it needs a healthy discussion in governmental level, which in case of Vedanta in Kalahandi/Niyamgir was successfully carried out by Supreme Court, the ruling I support completely. In fact much before our esteem reader pointed out now, I predicted that in case of Bhakta Das winning MP seat in Kalahandi his opposition to Vedanta might get diluted. In fact few months back he publicly accepted Vedanta refinery in Kalahandi, can be found in our old posting. It is also true that apart from this leadership strength Bhakta Das has several limitations and weakness which I have not discussed in this blog. If he would have a minister surely I would have like to discuss that like I did for Bhupinder Singh & Pushpendra Singh Deo. Here, I just wanted to give a general idea, being just a MP how could he work for Kalahandi's development.

i must appreciate the blog of mr.digambar.
atleast he has a clear view what he thinks of a leader respected by most of kalahandia.on the otherhand mr anonymous who commented on mr digambar's suggestion and views on mr.das is more of a biased person.one hand he asking mr digambar to post impartial comment onthe otherhand he praising bjd leaders and have some personal vendetta against mr das..so i must ask mr anonymous to post responsible blog and appreciate blogs written with passion and social concern.

Congratulation Mr.patra for Mr.Bhakta Charan Das has included you in his new organisation Vision Kalahandi. It stands for better education, communication and industilisation, irrigation development etc for Kalahandi district. Now Mr.Das is a Member of Parliament he want development of kalahandi. Before that he was in Green Kalahandi movement as he was not in power. After winning the electionhe does not want to head the green kalahandi movement as it would project him as an environmentalist and he has to live like a pauper. But with vision Kalahandi he can now discuss with big industrialists andblah blah blah.and live like a prince. His motto is live like a prince and preach like a pauper.

mr.Patra since you are impressed with Mr.Das's work on railways in his earlier stint, it was because of a non-congress government. Now mr.Bhakta Charan Das is not able to extend the Bolangir-Bhubaneswar intercity train upto Kesinga Station which would help the people of Kalahandi district to visit Bhubaneswar easily cause now he is in Congress Government.

Its The Congress who is responsible for the condition of Kalahandi & this time Bhakta Das , a Congress man will do his duty for Kalahandi.

For development of kalahandi, Congress should leave Kalahandi, Specially Rahul Gandhi who uses for politics all the time.
