BHAWANIPATNA: Contrary to the State trend, Congress has achieved an unexpected result in Kalahandi. The party has won four of the five Assembly segments except the Dharamgarh seat where BJD candidate Puspendra Singhdeo won by defeating his Congress rival Rasabihari Behera, the party district president, by a margin of 22,829 votes.
In Narla Assembly segment, Congress candidate Bhupendra Singh won by 22,931 votes against his nearest BJP’s Srikant Hota. Congress candidate Gobardhan Das won the Junagarh Assembly seat by defeating his nearest BJD rival Bira Sipka by 6,586 votes. In Lanjigarh, Congress candidate Shivaji Majhi won by 3,039 votes after defeating his nearest BJD rival Balabhadra Majhi.
In Bhawanipatna, Congress candidate Dusmanta Nayak won by a margin of 2,343 votes against his nearest BJP rival Pradipta Kumar Nayak.
In Kalahandi Parliamentary segment, Bhakta Charan Das of Congress won by a margin of over one lakh votes against his rival Subhas Chandra Nayak, BJD.
