A Letter to Chief Minister of Orissa

Dear honorable Chief Minister Mr. Patnaik,
I appreciate your initiative to dissolve recent controversy on shifting of Central University of Orissa from KBK region to some other place.

I would also like to draw your kind attention that despite your announcement to start state Government Engineering and Agriculture Colleges in Bhawanipatna from coming academic year, the lay out for the above has not been produced. The layout of proposed Paralamaharaja Engineering College at Berhampur was available in early October 2008 and land for proposed Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Berhampur has been reserved.

Some of the news reports mentioned that Paralamaharaja Engineering College might be established in 100 acres of land where as in Bhawanipatna similar Engineering College would be in 40 acres of land. Do we assume the proposed College in Bhawanipatna will be of sub-standard compared to one proposed in Berhampur!

The Government has also taken initiative to make Khallikote College Berhampur to be Unitary University but has ignored similar demand for Government Autonomous College Bhawanipatna though the latter deserves more preference based on social and regional parameters. University Grant Commission (UGC) had also certified Government Autonomous College Bhawanipatna among the first three colleges along with Ravenshaw College (now University) as potential center of excellence in Orissa much earlier than Khallikote College Berhampur was.

I hope you will take appropriate action on this matter.

Thank you and kind regards
