An Oriya NRI, in an e-mail, has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to specially choose Cabinet Minister of Railways from Orissa so that the ongoing railway projects in the State would get more importance.

Former Railway Ministers such as Lalu Yadav, Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee continuously ignored railway demand and requirement of Orissa and were indulged in political influence to divert funds to their respective States, alleged Digambara Patra, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, American University of Beirut, Lebanon.

Bihar comes under one of the most loss-making railway zones, Bihar and West Bengal are the most gainers from the Indian Railways where as profit-making Orissa is a loser, especially, Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput region is the worst sufferer, he mentioned, citing examples of the struggling ongoing projects and the unfulfilled dream of a rail coach factory since decades in the KBK region.
