BHUBANESWAR: After allowing a brief respite, heatwave again gripped western and central Orissa districts where the mercury rose to 44 degree Celsius on Thursday.
Sambalpur and Talcher were the hottest at 44 degree Celsius while other stations like Jharsuguda, Titlagarh, Angul, Bhawanipatna, Hirakud, Sundargarh and Balangir recorded over 42 Celsius.
Coastal region where the temperature has registered a marginal rise showed no signs of let up.
The weather analysts described it as a cycle spanning three to four days. This cycle will continue.
Coastal pockets may see a drop in the day temperature by Saturday while western and central pockets will take a day longer, said official sources in the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting.
Setting of Bay wind may break the heat cycle. Gusty wind blowing from over the Bay of Bengal may bring down the mercury in coastal Orissa by Saturday while in western districts, it will reach a day late.
However, there is likelihood of thunder storm over isolated places and it can help the atmosphere cool down too.
With the heatwave playing hide and seek, the number of deaths suspected to have been caused by sunstroke today reached 110.
The State Government has confirmed only 27 casualties, while 44 deaths are attributed to reasons other than the sunstroke.
The Revenue Control Room said Khurda and Dhenkanal districts have recorded five deaths each while Balasore reported four.
