B’patna civic body EO, clerk held taking bribe

A Vigilance case had been registered against Trilochan Rout, Junior Clerk, and Sankar Prasad Padhi, Executive Officer (EO), of the Bhawanipatna Municipality for demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 1,000 from Plaban Kumar Pattnaik of the Irrigation Colony at Bhawanipatna to accord permission for construction of a house.

In the course of the investigation, a trap was laid on Friday in the premises of the municipality office by Vigilance officers.

Rout and Padhi were caught red-handed by Vigilance officers after they received Rs 3,000, including the required Government fee of Rs 1,880 and the illegal gratification of Rs 1,120 from Pattnaik.

Rout, after receiving Rs 3,000, prepared the necessary draft in the concerned file and went to the table of Executive Officer Padhi.

As per direction of Padhi, Rout kept the share amount of Rs 500 inside the table’s drawer of Padhi.

An amount of Rs 2,500, including the Government fee of Rs 1,880 and the remaining Rs 620 towards share of Rout was recovered from the shirt pocket of Rout.

An amount of Rs 500 was recovered from the table drawer of Padhi.

Both Padhi and Rout were then arrested.
