Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday shot off a letter to Railway Minister Mamata Banarjee urging her to provide Orissa its rightful dues in the coming Railway Budget.
The Chief Minister, in the letter, rued that while the railways are earning about Rs 5,000 crore from the State, they are not investing the required funds for development of infrastructure.
Patnaik hoped that in wake of the rapid industrialisation and the development of backward areas in the State, the development of railway infrastructure will be given adequate priority.
The Chief Minister also in the letter reminded Banarjee of the letter he had written to the then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on January 17. In the letter, the Chief Minister had given a proposal for an outlay of Rs 1,520 crore in the Railway Budget for development of railways in the State.
And this included the development of railway communications in undivided Koraput district, setting up of a railway coach factory in any underdeveloped area in the State, plying of a Satabadi Express between Puri and Paradip, developing of the Bhubaneswar Railway Station into a world class railway station and the starting of survey work for running of high speed trains between Howrah - Bhubaneswar- Vishakhapatnam and Vijaywada, expedition of the Khurda- Balangir railway line and the laying of different railway lines.
