NRHM to boost health profile

Bhubaneswar, 11 JUNE: The approved programme implementation plan of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Orissa, will be disseminated at seven venues across the state on 20 June and 22 June.
The NRHM is taking initiative for the first time in Orissa to provide direct hand holding support to the districts.
The focus of this dissemination strategy would be to ensure that the districts make proper use of allocations received under different programme components and to bring qualitative changes in the life of the people in terms of health.
A team of officials deputed from the Orissa State Health and Family Welfare Society will provide hand holding support to the districts in suggesting methods and elaborating methodology for achieving both physical and financial status during the year 2009-10.
The dissemination campaign will broadly focus on issues crucial to state such as maternal health and child health, and will institutionalise new initiatives taken up at the district level.
The state team will comprise of four to five team members of resource persons to facilitate a state level dissemination workshop.
Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal will be accommodated at the regional venue at Berhampur, whereas Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore are instructed to join Bhadrak for this purpose.
Similarly, districts like Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Boudh and Sonepur will have to report to Bolangir, whereas the regional venue Koraput will accommodate Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Nawarangpur.
The regional venue at Bhubaneswar will accommodate the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh and Puri. The regional venues Angul and Sambalpur will hosts districts such as Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh; and Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Bargarh respectively.
An approved Orissa health sector plan will deal with construction within hospital premises to make the hospitals up to Indian public health standards. Health plan developments for the year 2009-10 will also be discussed at length on these days.
Ten officials, including two district-level health officials, four district programme management unit staff, two block medical officers, one BPO and one other block level officer from each district will attend the dissemination campaign.
Prior to this initiative, the NRHM has appointed state level consultants as NRHM nodal officers of the district in order to bring about a single point interface between district and state.
