In an e-mail to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, an Oriya NRI has expressed his dissatisfaction over the Centre’s negligence towards Orissa and earnestly placed some proposals before her ahead of the Railway Budget.

Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, American University of Beirut, Digambara Patra has rued over the fact that Indian Railways has been neglecting Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput (KBK) region since independence and railway projects such as Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh and Balangir-Khurda Road are struggling since decades.

In last couple of years, Indian Railways has committed Rs 55,000 crore investments only in Bihar for various ongoing and new projects where as Orissa, especially KBK, is being continuously neglected since decades, he pointed out.

National politicians have often used backwardness of Kalahandi to show case their eagerness towards the poor people in the society though they fail to scrutinize high rate of unemployment rate among semi-skilled and skilled laborer in the region, he alleged.

He has proposed the Railway Minister to approve Kantabanji-Khariar-Ampani-Nabarangpur-Jeypore line, accomplish Lanjigarh Road-Jungarh line completely in coming financial year, complete Khurda Road-Balangir line in 11th Plan, survey and approve Lanjigarh Road-Phulbani-Angul line and establish a coach factory in Kalahandi.
