Vedanta pledges to make Lanjigarh greener

Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) observed the World Environment Day-2009 at its alumina refinery at Lanjigarh on Friday by organising a series of programmes starting with massive plantation by employees and their family members near the township.

More than 2,000 saplings of varied variety were planted. A similar plantation drive was also taken up inside the plant. A workshop on ‘Green Lanjigarh’ was also held. VAL COO Dr Mukesh Kumar said, “Being present in an eco-sensitive area it is the responsibility of Vedanta to improve the ecological condition of the locality. Vedanta is deeply committed to follow world-class practices in environment management and the principles of sustainable prosperity of the area.” Senior State Government and company officials were present.
