Chhattisgarh to Orissa : Give 1 TMC water from Upper Indravati project

Berhampur ( Orissa ) : With Orissa and Andhra Pradesh fighting for water, a new twist added with Chhattisgarh Government seeking 1TMC water from the multi-purpose Upper Indravati Project located in tribal dominated Kalahandi’s Bhawanipatana, sources revealed on Monday.

The move came to light after Chhattisgarh Agriculture Minister CS Sahu, who was in the State to attend the Ministers’ Conference, met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in this regard.

Sources said that Chief Minister told the Minister that a meeting of Chief Secretaries of both States would be called to discuss the issue.

If Orissa allows water, according to sources, it would irrigate around 5000 acres of land 35 villages of Deobhog area under Raipur district of the neighbouring State.Sources said Chhattisgarh could receive the water through the Tel River.
