Cuttack , July 10 Orissa government today moved the high court to vacate a stay imposed by it last year on Forest Rights Act.
Advocate General Ashok Mohanty made the plea aimed at benefitting tribals settled in jungles to secure the land rights which was not possible if last year&aposs court stay order remained in force.
An estimated 30,000-40,000 tribals are settled in jungle lands in Koraput, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts with the state government having already identified about 20,000 tribals who are traditional forest dwellers but have no land rights.
The move by the state is a follow-up of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik&aposs visit to troubled areas of Narayanpatna of Koraput district last month, where tribal outfit&apos Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha&aposwas forcibly occupying nearly 800 acres of farmland belonging to non-tribals in the block.
