BHUBANESWAR: Speaker Pradip Amat today directed the Minister of State for School and Mass Education Pratap Jena to take steps for engaging the retrenched para-teachers.

Responding to the issue raised by some members including leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh, the Speaker said the retrenched para-teachers were given engagement in some districts. They should be engaged in rest of the districts in the second phase, he said.

Alleging that the State Government is discriminating against some backward districts including Koraput and Kalahandi, the leader of the Opposition said the dismissed para-teachers were not re-engaged in Koraput and Kalahandi districts.

Out of the 1,255 retrenched, 753 have been re-engaged while no decision has been taken for the rest. Besides, 250 para-teachers, who were engaged in service after retrenchment, have been transferred to other districts violating guidelines, he alleged
