Locally repacked liquor sold in Kalahandi vends

Despite various rules and regulations, the Excise Department personnel in Kalahandi district are never bothered about spot verification in the liquor shops.

It is pointed out by knowledgeable quarters that the Excise Department should send the samples of the Indian made foreign liquors (IMFLs) at least once every month to test their purity, which should be conducted at Cuttack. Regular liquor consumers have been complaining about availability of repacked liquor bottles with the liquor vendors.

When contacted, Excise Inspector of Kalahandi Panda bluntly replied to this correspondent that as the IMFL bottles come to the market with proper seals and quality labels the departmental staff do not need to check their purity. But as per the consumers, a large number of bottles are repacked in the market with high-quality repacking machines.
