The Kalahandi Truck Owners’ Association (KTOA) on Monday blocked all loaded vehicles of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) for an indefinite period on the NH 201, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The KTOA alleged that it has been restrained from transportation by VAL, though it had assured them to engage 20 to 30 bauxite rakes at the Kesinga railway siding. But the dumping has stopped since January 9, at Kesinga railway siding and has been diverted to Daikhal of Rayagada.
According to sources, VAL does not have any written pact with the KTOA to engage their vehicles indefinitely but had assured to do good business with the association. As transportation has been stopped, truck owners are in quandary to repay their loans. They allege that banks have seized 4 trucks and issued notices to 50 owners for payment.
Sources said the company would not profit with 5 to 7 rakes as against the 25 to 30 rakes a month at Kesinga. Till this report was filed, nothing was finalised between VAL and KTOA, with trucks being stranded throughout the day. The siding at Rupra Road station was not cleared by the railway authorities.
