AYUSH doctors in KBK threaten mass agitation

KBK Mobile Health Unit Doctors’ Association’s convener Biswajit Hota said here in a statement that if the Health Minister failed to pronounce permanent employment and raise the salaries of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) doctors from Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000, they would resort to a mass agitation.

The State Government has not given permanent employment to any of these doctors since 1991, he said.

The association alleged that 80 Ayurveda and Homoeopathy doctors were appointed in Mobile Health Units (MHUs) in 2001-02. At that time 180 AYUSH doctors were appointed at a monthly salary of Rs 7,000 on contractual basis in 2003-04. Thereafter National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) appointed 893 doctors on a monthly salary of Rs 8,000 in 2006.

Although representatives of the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad have also declared that MHUs are the successful units for common man, the Government is not favouring us, convenor Hota alleged.

Now, AYUSH doctors are getting a salary of Rs 8,000 and DA of Rs 2,000 per month. Since last seven years no hikes were seen. In absence of Allopathy doctors, AYUSH doctors take all the charge in the MHUs, pointed out Hota.

Briefing the impartiality towards AYUSH doctors, the association stated that the permanent doctors are getting Rs 28,000-36,000 and Class IV employees are getting above Rs 12,000 as salary per month. Discrimination is being clearly seen in the salary structure of AYUSH doctors, they alleged.

Four months ago the Health Minister had stated that AYUSH doctors are getting a salary of Rs 12,000 which was a false statement, Hota rued.

The association has condemned the hike of vehicle rent and diesel expenses by the Government which was raised from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000 and Rs 3,300 to Rs 8,000 respectively which was a wrong decision by the State Government, they said in a press statement.
