BHUBANESWAR: The Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura-2010 got off to a colourful start here today. The event was inaugurated by MP Bhakta Charan Das.

Torches from Shaiva Peetha Belkhandi, Martyrs’ land Urladani, Budharaja temple of Ampani, sand from Manikeswari temples of Bhawanipatna and Thuamul-Rampur were brought in a procession to the venue.

From today, various events will be organised as part of the Ghumura Utsav across the district and the final function will be organised from January 14 to 17 at Bhawanipatna.

The day also saw celebration of the Kalahandi Foundation Day.

A seminar on the topic - Kalahandi: Past, Present and Future - was organised at the Town hall here.

The Kalahandi princely state was merged with Orissa on November 1, 1948 and on the same day in 1949, it got separate district status.

To commemorate this day, Kalahandi Foundation Day is observed every year by the Kalahandi Sanskruti Parishad.
