Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has started the ball rolling for rehabilitation of BJD members who could not succeed in the last State Assembly election in Government-run bodies. Many aspiring for berths in corporations have found their names in the governing body of the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC).
Patnaik on Saturday cleared the new list of expert-members of the WODC, with most of them belonging to the BJD and having lost in the last election. They include Hamid Hussain, Dayanidhi Kisan, Prakriti Devi, Snehangini Churia and Sanatan Bisi.
Hussain had unsuccessfully fought the poll from the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat as the BJD candidate. Prakriti Devi lost the poll from the Patnagarh Assembly constituency and Snehagini Churia lost from the Atabira Assembly seat. Similarly, Sanatan Bisi, former Minister, lost the poll from the Rengali Assembly seat.
However, among the member names of experts like MD Kalinga Hospital Dr Saheb Sahu, a leading educationist from Kalahandi Prof Gopabandhu Behera and former Chief Engineer Jyoti Bhusan Nayak are also found in the new list.
The 21-member list also includes two MPs, Congress' Hemanand Biswal (Sundargarh) and the BJD's Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo (Balangir). Besides, 11 MLAs of the region Sanjeeb Kumar Sahu (also a Minister), Susant Singh, Ramakanta Seth, Bhagban Kanhar, Sanjeeb Kumar Pradhan, Anup Kumar Sai, Gobardhan Das, Hitesh Kumar bagarti, Rajendra Kumar Dholakia, Padmanabh Behera, Birmaharajpur and Subrat Tarai have been included.
These posts were lying vacant for quite some time and it was supposed to be filled up by the new Government, which took over on May 16. Due to political wrangling, it was delayed for a long time, leaving the WODC in limbo, feel political observers.
NOTE: This report has mentioned Rajendra Kumar Dholakia (Nuapada MLA) but other reports says Rajendra Kumar Chhatria (Kuchinda). Prof. Gopa Bandhu Behera has been leading Kalahandi Sikhya Vikash Parisada and has been working for a central University in Kalahandi since 1999.
