Dear Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Singh,
Odisha Government is playing politics over ESIC medical college in Odisha.
Local people along with MPs had also written letters to you to establish ESIC medical college in Rourkela (The Pioneer, Nov 22, 2009; Expressbuzz, Nov 23, 2009)
Keeping the public sentiment in Kalahandi for Government medical college and ongoing protest in Rourkela for ESIC medical college, ministry of Labor and Employment Government of Orissa has earlier requested the central Government (Union Ministry of Labor and Employment) to establish second medical college in Rourkela and Dental and Nursing College in Kalahandi and (The Samaja, Oct 16, 2009, Expressbuzz, Oct 15, 2009)

However, very recently Orissa Government is changing its view and now suggesting for a Dental and Nursing College in Rourkela (Tathya.in, Dec 8, 2009) indirectly forcing the medical college to be established in Bhubaneswar by totally neglecting and ignoring the interest of Kalahandi and KBK region.

Kalahandi was already betrayed by Odisha Government for the Central University of Orissa. Looking at the local atmosphere and public demand for a Government medical college in Kalahandi, state ministry of Labor and Employment has requested for ESIC dental and nursing college in Kalahandi district (The Samaja, Oct 16, 2009, Expressbuzz, Oct 15, 2009).
Union ministry of Labor and Employment is establishing two ESIC medical colleges in Karnataka, one being in the home constituency of concern union minister. Why another medical college cannot be established in Orissa?
However, Kalahandi has been at the receiving end since it joined Odisha state in 1947-48. The region is being neglected and ignored continuously despite it is being located in the center of South Western Odisha, the backward pocket of Odisha and India in general. Every year hundreds of people are dying due to lack of proper health faculties and human resources in health in this pocket.
The present change of mind by Odisha Government has exposed the corruption and favoritism while establishing ESIC medical college.
We strongly oppose the recent move by Odisha state Government and appeal and pray to you that Dental and Nursing College by ESIC must come in Kalahandi district as proposed earlier.
Thank you
With best regards
Digambara Patra
