Vedanta joins hand with Kalahandi district administration for Pulse Polio Immunization

Lanjigarh (Orissa): Vedanta Aluminium Limited, Lanjigarh supported the District Health administration of Kalahandi in the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization campaign and administered pulse polio drops to several infants in Lanjigarh area. Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of Vedanta Aluminium Limited started the program by administering polio vaccine to children at Apollo Hospital, Vedanta Staff Colony Hospital.


Inaugurating the program Dr. Mukesh Kumar said, “Vedanta reiterates its commitment for development health care in the locality. Immunization of children would help them for a healthy living of the future generation”.

On January 10, 2010 total 1434 children were immunized through 13 immunization booths. One transit team also administered the polio drops at various locations. Special efforts were made to cover the children of migrant workers, who come from various states to Lanjigarh. The campaign will be continued for three days.

The Company provided assistance in logistics arrangement, manpower and other support to the medical team of district health administration. Prior to the program, the CSR team members of the Aluminium Company conducted extensive awareness drive for last one week to mobilize the community for active participation in the campaign. With joint effort of the health team and VAL, there was an overwhelming response to the program by the community.
