BHUBANESWAR: Since temperatures rose across the State, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a heatwave advisory for the next two days.

With maximum day temperature remaining at least three to four degree Celsius above normal, most schools had already chosen to advance the classes by an hour in the morning as a precautionary measure.

The impact of heatwave was uniform. As many as 11 towns recorded 40 degree plus temperature today While northern town Baripada recorded 42 degree Celsius on the day, in the southern most district of Malkangiri, temperature read 40.7 degree.

In the coastal plains of the State, there was no respite from the heatwave.

At Chandbali, the highest day temperature was 41.7 degree Celsius whereas in Talcher, it stood at 41.5.

The twin cities felt the blistering conditions where the mercury hovered about 40.5 Celsius for two successive days. In both cities, mercury stood at a good four degree above the normal, the weather office said.

The hot zone in western pockets witnessed similar conditions.

The IMD warned a rise in the maximum day temperature by at least one to two degree over central and adjoining eastern Indian regions such as Orissa and Telangana during the next two to three days. This, the weather office said, will lead to an extension of the heatwave condition over more parts of these regions.

Over the next 48 hours, heatwave conditions would prevail over more parts of interior Orissa.
