Bhubaneswar, Mar 17 (PTI) Orissa Assembly was today adjourned thrice in the face of pandemonium by opposition Congress MLAs demanding removal of the chairperson of the Western Orissa Development Council (WODC).
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, S S Saluja termed the Council as a "rehabilitation platform" for the ruling party and said defeated BJD candidates were made expert members.
Though the expert members had no specialisation in any field, they were appointed in the council, the Congress members alleged. "The expert members exercise more power than sitting MLAs," party member from Kalahandi Gobardhan Das said.
Stating that 36 MLAs and six MPs from the western region were ignored by the WODC chairman, Das alleged that interest of western region was not being given importance.
Some of the MLAs also demanded shifting of the WODC headquarters from here to any place in the western region.
