The town wore a deserted look on Thursday following shops and other private establishments remained closed on the second day of the bandh which started on Wednesday for an indefinite period led by Kalahandi Merchant Association and standing committee in protest of the unscheduled power cuts in the town.

Hundreds of people took to the streets holding placards and shouted slogans against WESCO. They took out a procession and requested officers to shut down the banks and the bankers also supported the move. Even the ATMs were closed in support of the bandh call. However, commuters felt relaxed after the filling stations were opened on the second day of the bandh.

The Kalahandi Bar Association supported the peaceful bandh and decided to cease court works since Friday. While holding a meeting before the Collectorate, the committee submitted a memorandum on their three-point charter-of-demands to ADM Chudamani Seth.

The memorandum demanded immediate transfer of the WESCO executive engineer, withdrawal of false cases pending against the members of Kalahandi Merchant Association filed by WESCO officials and as per State Government’s instructions not to go for unscheduled power cuts.
