Does Western Orissa need a second Government medical college, perhaps in Kalahandi region?

As we have been saying it does not make sense when state Government is establishing fully Government medical colleges in capital region such Capital hospital medical college , ESIC medical college, Railway Medical College, AIIMS type institution etc and at the same time encouraging private player to open medical college in regions like Balangir, Kalahandi etc as a result such institutions in backward places are struggling to meet local expectation even after six years where as other private medical colleges in Bhubaneswar region have already started their courses and hospital by this time. It is giving a wrong impression that Orissa state Government is more concerned towards establishing Government institution in state capital region such as law University, capital medical college, ESIC medical college, railway medical college, culture University, Ravenshaw University, IIT, NISER, WCCU, etc by ignoring other backward parts.

Saradar Raja has been convicted in a murder case by Madras High court, and fate of proposed medical college in Kalahandi through WODC initiation is unknown. Kalahandi is every year in the main news for poor health conditions in the nation. Hundreds of life is lost in this region each year. As Kalahandi is central to KBK region and Bhawanipatna is centrally located for KBK, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bargarh and Gajapati districts (all of them are backward) Health University in this location will boost whole region.

State Government Medical Colleges in Orissa are:

(1) SCB Medical College Cuttack
(2) VSS Medical College Sambalpur
(3) MKCG Medical College Berhampur
(4) Capital (Hospital) Medical College Bhubaneswar

Medical College proposed by Central Government Ministries in Orissa are:

(1) AIIMS like institute in Bhubaneswar by union ministry of health
(2) Medical College under Central University of Orissa at Koraput by MHRD
(3) Medical College would also be established under proposed National (world class) University at Bhubaneswar by MHRD
(4) Union ministry of Coal has already proposed Medical College in Talcher by MCI (work has started)
(5) State Government is also working on a proposal to establish a Medical College in Balasore through Defence Department
(6) Ministry of Railway has recently proposed a medical college in Bhubaneswar

Recently state Govt. has also proposed PPP mode medical colleges in Balasore, Rayagada and Cuttack (Naraj) [when Cuttack dist has SCB Medical college and SCB dental college, both by state govt.] districts, therefore, WODC initiated private medical colleges in western Orissa cannot be taken as Govt. institution. There should be equal number of establishments in all regions for overall growth of the state.

There is no proposal for second Govt. (both central & state) medical college in Western Orissa, whereas in South Orissa both Berhampur and Koraput would have Govt. medical colleges (see above list). In coastal Orissa there would be at least 6-7 Govt. medical colleges (see above list).

Since Bhawanipatna region is far away from VSS medical college (more than distance between Bhubaneswar and Balasore/Berhampur) and Rourkela has advantages of possibilities of private institutions and ESIC dental & nursing college, a new Govt. medical college or Health University should come in Bhawanipatna region of western Orissa.
