Demand for a Rail Wagon Factory at Narla in Kalahandi is gaining ground.

Local people in general and intelligentsia in particular are taking up the cause, which has made the administration to sit up.

With Digambara Patra, a leading NRO taking lead in this movement on 9 May a public meeting was held at Narla to mobilize public opinion.

Dr.Patro, who teaches in American University of Beirut is leading the movement.

Now local people have joined hands for the drive for a Railway Plant in this No-Industry Zone.

A K Nanda, Chairman Kalahandi Vision 2020, an innovative Knowledge Initiative chaired the meeting, which was attended by people cutting across the society.

As per local sources around 500 acres of Government land laying vacant near Chapotkhanda village near Narla, which is enough for a Railway Wagon Factory.

People of Kalahandi have been demanding a Railway Plant since a long time and petitioned Indian Railway Minister, Prime Minister and Chief Minister earlier.

Mamata Banaerjee had included Kalahandi as one of the probable locations for the same in last Railway Budget.

This movement has also political support as BJD, BJP and Congress leaders have thrown their weight behind Railway Wagon Factory Movement that is gaining strength in this far flung backward region of the state.
