Violation of the Forest Rights Act and the Forest Conservation Act at Lanjigarh

A team of experts indicates some deficiencies in implementation of the Forest Rights Act in Bauxite Mining in Lanjigarh. The committee was sent to enquire into alleged violation of the provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, and impact of the proposed mining project on Tribal Rights and Wildlife Conservation. The Committee has submitted its report and has indicated some deficiencies in implementation of the Forest Rights Act. The report of the team along with compliance of the conditions by the user agency are under consideration of the Ministry.


This information was given by the Minister of State for Environment and Forests (independent charge) Shri Jairam Ramesh in a written reply to a question by Shri D Raja and Shri R C Singh in Rajya Sabha today.
