Orissa Government to separate junior colleges and Degree colleges

Report by Dipti Ranjan Kanungo; Bhubaneswar: Orissa Government decides to separate junior colleges and Degree colleges. The recommendation of the Task force has been accepted by the state government. Hence forth the +2 will be separated from +3. It will be followed to Kerala and West Bengal state.


The government will not give permission to open +2 Arts in 15 districts viz. Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Sambalpur, Sundergarh and Debagarh districts. It has been decided to encourage Science and Commerce faculties.

A high level meeting held in the Orissa Secretariat on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. In this meeting the recommendations of the Taskforce were discussed. In this meeting Higher Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Commissioner Cum Secretary of Higher Education Department Madhusudan Padhi, Special Secretary Anirudha Raur and other higher officials were present. In 14 districts viz Rayagada, Nuapada, Navarangapur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Gajapati and Angul districts have less +2 college and number of seats. Permission will be given to open +2 Arts Colleges in these districts. Model schools will be opened in 173 blocks.
