Vedanta Aluminium celebrates World Environment Day at Orissa’s Lanjigarh with great fanfare

Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Lanjigarh: Vedanta Aluminium Ltd celebrated World Environment Day “Sankalap” at Lanjigarh in which leading Oriya Cinestar Anubhav Mohanty, Kajal Mishra and Television Artist Prithiviraj and Sukant walked with more than 6000 people from Lanjigarh and adjoining area to make the event successful. About 500 Dongria Kondh Tribes also participated in the rally with messages for environment and development.


Former Minister, Balabhadra Majhi; Ex-MP, Subas Naik; Block Chair Person, Srimati majhi; Local Sarpanch, Saraswati Munda; and others were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion on behalf of VAL Mr Sanjay Pattnaik said that Vedanta is always committed towards the people of Orissa and with the support of the people Vedanta will make a new Kalahandi in Orissa.

The cine stars planted sapling at the plant premises. The program was organized in association with Lanjigarh Yuvak Sangha. They also led the foundation of the Lanjigarh Culture Centre which will be managed by the Lanjigarh Yuvak Sangha.

Former Minister, Balabhadra Majhi said that Industrialization is important for development of the society. With Vedanta, Lanjigarh will be number one block of Kalahandi district, he added. The guests presented trophies to the winners of drawing and slogan competition.

People also pledged with Cine Star Anubhav Mohanty for planting one tree, at least on this environment Day. He thanked Vedanta for its efforts in preservation of the environment. ‘But a company cannot do everything alone. It needs the support of all the people of Lanjigarh and neighboring areas’, he added.

Vedanta Aluminium Limited conducted a weeklong celebration for world environment day. It has planted around 3000 saplings with active participation of community members. In addition to raise awareness about environment among its employees, the Company also involved the local community. The refinery also operates with Zero Discharge Method, which makes it one of the best environment friendly plants.
