While one person belonging to Manjhari village under Golamunda block of Kalahandi district has reportedly succumbed to diarrhoea, at least six people have been diagnosed with diarrhoea, sources said. The affected persons are being treated by a team of six doctors, they added.
According to reports, Purnachandra Naik (15), Rasmita Patel (9) and Narayan Saraf (65) were diagnosed with diarrhoea and they were admitted in Golamunda hospital on July 30. As the condition of Naik became critical, he was referred to Dharmagarh sub-divisional hospital but unfortunately he succumbed on the way.
When the condition of six patients became critical on Tuesday, a team of six doctors were immediately sent to the village to take care of the patients.
According to Health Department sources, as the only tubewell in the entire Manjhari village has been lying defunct since long, villagers have no option other than using river water for drinking purposes. The main reason for diarrhoea outbreak in the village is unsafe and contaminated drinking water, they said.
