Govt files status report on diarrhoea outbreak in Kalahandi

Cuttack (Orissa), Oct 8 (PTI) Orissa government today informed the Orissa High Court that adequate preventive measures had been taken in tribal-dominated Kalahandi district to check the spread of diarrhoea.
The government made the affidavit after a petitioner had brought to the notice of the High Court that the south zone revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) during his visit to the district in August had given adverse report about the situation in the district.
The affidavit filed by an under secretary of the health department maintained that supply of potable water in the worst-affected blocks of Koksara and Ambapani has been restored.
Admitting that there was some slackness on the part of some government officials in drinking water supply, the affidavit said an executive engineer Simanchal Das of rural water works was suspended following adverse remarks made against him by the RDC.
Appending a report of the Kalahandi collector in the affidavit, the government claimed that under no circumstances the people of the district were made to purchase medicines from outside when diarrhoea cases were reported.
The petitioner had alleged that drinking water and medicines were not distributed to the people forcing the patients to purchase medicines from outside.
