Admn plans to curb paddy distress sale in Kalahandi

The district administration has initiated strong steps to stop the distress sale of paddy this year in Kalahandi.

Virtually twisting the hands of the dalals and millers, the administration has strictly instructed for the due procurement procedure so that the farmers get the reasonable price while Collector Roopa Mishra and Sub-Collector Jagannath Mohanty are reportedly making personal visits to each mandi.

The administration has assured the farmers of procuring their paddy at 105 mandis where the authorised agencies MARKFED, TDCC, NAFED, FCI and co-operatives have been assigned to lift the paddy.

The district has till now collected 10,119.60 quintals of paddy up to November 26. While 7,941.30 quintals have been purchased from 271 farmers at Dharmagarh sub-division, 2,178.30 quintals from 70 farmers at Bhawanipatna sub-division.

Total 51 millers have signed the agreement papers this year while 39 have reportedly participated till date in the lifting of paddy, sources said.
