Poor Dongorias have a millionaire officer

BHUBANESWAR: The primitive Dongoria Kondhs may be fighting for survival but the man who heads the government agency to plan their welfare is a millionaire.


On Wednesday, the Special Officer of Dongoria Kondhs Development Agency (DKDA) came under the scanner of the Vigilance which unearthed assets close to `70 lakh.

Sankarshan Sahu, the special officer of DKDA, was found to have owned at least two buildings in Bhubaneswar besides four plots. He had paid an advance for the fifth plot. The total value of Sahu’s immovable assets stands at `46 lakh.

The Bhubaneswar division of the Vigilance which carried out the raids at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rayagada also found Sahu to be possessing `7.04 lakh in cash. Besides having household articles and bikes, Sahu also owned gold ornaments weighing 166 grams while his bank deposits and investments are to the tune of `5.28 lakh.

Most of the assets were acquired either in his name or in the name of his family members.

DKDA is headquartered at Chatikana in Bisamkattack block of Rayagada.
