BHAWANIPATNA: Kalahandi is the grip of cold wave with a constant dip in temperature noticed from the beginning of this week. The town recorded 6 degree Celsius today while chill in the interior and hilly regions was reportedly more intense. The town recorded a minimum of 6.5 degree Celsius on Thursday while the mercury read 8.7 on Wednesday, 10.6 on Tuesday and 11.5 on Monday. With fog blurring vision people prefer to move out of homes only around 9 am. In tribal populated high altitudes of Thuamul Rampur block night temperature remains between 3 degrees to 0 degree Celsius. With heavy frost reported in Thuamul Rampur, Kuang, Gunpur, Kaniguma, Gopalpur and Suryagarh areas for over a week it is feared that oil seed and pulses crops may get affected.SAMBALPUR: Mercury today read a minimum of 5.8 degree Celsius in Sambalpur. The biting cold has hit the schoolchildren hard with many having to reach the institutions even before the fog settles down. It has also left the parents worried as the vehicles ferrying students have to negotiate with fog in the wee hours. Yesterday, one Dinabandhu Kumra (47) of Lapda village in Kuchinda sub division was found dead in his house yesterday morning reportedly due to cold.
