Ghumura Utsav begins on a high note

BHAWANIPATNA: With the echo of Ghumura, Ghanta and Badya, the Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura 2012 was inaugurated by DIG Koraput Soumendra Priyadarsi at the Lal Bahadur stadium on Saturday.
Prior to the inauguration, a colourful rally was taken out from Manikeswari temple to the venue which saw participation from 27 folk dance troupes. Artistes from various parts of the State and outside showcased art forms like Singha Vadya, Ghumura, Paika Akhada, Bhangra and Sahi Jatra.
Dancers of Siddi community of Gujarat also performed Siddi Dhamal Dance, popularly known as Dhamal dance. The ‘mashal’ from the temple was brought in the procession to the venue.
Ghumura dance competition was also organised on the occasion.
Exhibitions on various products of SHGs and rural artisans have been put up.
Among others, BSF DIG S K Barua, Kalahandi Collector Dukhishayam Satpathi, SP Sudha Singh and Sub-Collector Dharamgarh Gouri Parasar were present during the inaugural ceremony.
