Wheat dumped behind ICDS office

Times of India, Sept. 7, 2013
BHAWANIPATNA: Wheat meant for children of anganwadi centres was found buried behind theIntegrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) office in Bhawanipatna block on Thursday. Some grains were also found burnt near the godown.

The ICDS officials said they came to know about it after a labourer informed about it.

Then the soil was dug in the presence of block chairman and vice-chairman and a large quantity of wheat was found there. But no official could explain who destroyed the wheat and why.

The government supplies the wheat to the block office, which sends it to the SHGs to prepare 'chatua'. The SHGs send it to anganwadi centres, where it is fed to the children.

In-charge child development project officer (CDPO) Saubhagya Mishra said, "I came to know that the wheat has been dumped after the ADM informed her about it." Replying to the reporters, additional district magistrate (ADM) Ashok Nayak said we can reach a conclusion only after conducting an inquiry and verifying the stocks in the godown.
