Times of India, Oct. 1, 2013
BHUBANESWAR: In a last moment hitch for 15 students, selected for MBBS course at Sardar Rajas Medical College at Jaring in Kalahandi district, the college has refused them admission, citing that it would fill up the seats under management quota.

"We had selected 100 students for the 100 seats from national eligibility-cum-entrance test as directed by the government. But we were conveyed by the Kalahandi administration that the college denied admission to some students," Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) secretary Priyabrata Sahoo said.

While the college first admitted 72 students on basis of OJEE counseling on September 16 and it admitted 13 students on September 26.

Director Medical Education and Training Sunamali Bag said according to the MoU signed by the college, it was supposed to give 10% reservation to students of western Odisha. But there was no stipulation of management quota.

Sources said the private college has moved the Supreme Court for staking its claim over 15% seats. College authorities could not be contacted for comment. The state government had provided Rs 10 crore and 25 acre to Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust of Tamil Nadu to open the medical college.
