BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday wrote a letter to Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh, requesting him to set up a National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre in Odisha.
Naveen said, "Establishment of the centre of excellence will boost milk production and provide livelihood support to a large number of dairy farmers."
He also pointed out that Odisha has around 1.3 crore indigenous bovine population. Of which, four indigenous cattle breeds, binjharpuri, ghumusari, khariar and motu, and two buffalo breeds, chilika and kalahandi, are registered breeds by the government of India, considering their unique traits.
