Changed symbol and organisational difficulties have forced the Kosal Kranti Dal to withdraw its candidates from contesting in Balangir and Kalahandi Lok Sabha seats and Narla Assembly constituency in Kalahandi district.

This was announced by party president Promod Kumar Mishra, speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday. “We have asked for the symbol of bullock cart and it was this symbol which was popularised by the Kosal Kranti Dal during the Kosal jatha and election to urban local bodies,” said Mishra.

However, this symbol is not available in the free symbol list of the Election Commission. In view of the paucity of time it is impossible to popularise the new symbol in the 2000 villages of Balangir Parliamentary constituency.

“We have applied for the candle symbol and which will be available to us by tomorrow. The new symbol of the Kosal Kranti Dal will be candle,” added Mishra.

The Dal is going to concentrate in Patnagarh and Kantabanji Assembly segments. The joining of Dr Humid Hussain in the BJD and contesting Bargarh Lok Sabha seat is an unfortunate development and it will affect in a limited way the Kosal agitation, Mishra said.
