Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Railway Budget once again gives less thrust on capacity expansion and free flow of both passengers and goods traffic in the ten tribal districts of Orissa. This was pointed out in a memorandum by Lok Sabha MPs Jasbant Singh Laguri and Laxman Tudu.

The proposals presented in this year’s Budget will neither remove serious deficiencies in under-developed areas like KBK region nor be helpful in the process of economic slowdown faced by core mineral sectors with major ports and even amongst existing end-users and budgetary allocation for the State is down by 25 per cent in comparison to the previous year.

Their is almost nil funding for Banspani-Padapahad (double lines), Kendujhar Gard –Badampahad, Barsuan-Bokaro in Jharkhand and Baripada-Budhamara-Chakulia in West Bengal and Barbil-Barsuan (all new) or expediting the on going projects like Bimlagard –Talcher or Jharsuguda in the budget.

Similar backward areas of north eastern States received special package from Railway Board but Kalahandi, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Malkangiri and Kandhamal of KBK region and even Deogard district are poorly connected by Indian Railways, both the MPs further alleged.
